“After travelling extensively for most of my life, I have finally returned to my home town to continue to generate new work from my studio at Holme Mills. Having the opportunity to see a lot of the world and many aspects of different cultures has given me the basis for creating work that encompasses an eclectic mix of elements and agendas, based on personal experience and curiosity.”
Whilst usually experimenting in a described abstract – along with a sometimes unconventional use of mixed media materials and narrative, Zoë still aims to create ‘strands of consciousness’ and small notions of recognition through her use of symbolism, colour, texture and pattern.
Zoë is continuing to produce work in many mediums for private commission and exhibition. She is a steering group member of Green Door, as well as the recently formed Kendal Arts Community and administrator of Community Arts Forum.
The Brewhouse is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10.30am – 5pm.

“One of my earliest memories is of drawing with wax crayon on the wall behind my cot as a naughty toddler. I grew up at Rusland and spent a lot of time in the broadleaved woodlands, on the mosses which in the late 1800’s had bittern booming and at Rusland Pool which is the river meandering through the valley. Being lost in nature and watching wildlife is something that most children love and I never grew out of it. My parents allowed me to paint wildlife, deer, rabbits and birds on the walls of my bedroom as a young teenager – although it wasn’t exclusively British wildlife I was in to, as I remember getting told off at Ulverston Victoria High School for selling pictures of the wookie, Chewbacca!”
Marianne now spends a lot of time at Leighton Moss sketching from the hides and is a founder member of the Sketch Club, which meets every first Saturday in the month in the upstairs café at 10.30am. You can also see her work and a demonstration painting in progress at the Silverdale Art Trail where she will be at Leighton Moss’s education room on 30 June and 1 July.
Low Sizergh Barn Tea Room is open Monday to Saturday, 9.30am-5pm, Sunday 10am-5pm
